Taking your child to see an optician should just be a routine health check that you both feel relaxed and reassured about. Visit a Kodak Lens Vision Centre, and you'll receive individual care and attention, to ensure your child is fitted with glasses that feel comfortable and, correct their vision. We've put together some helpful advice to help you take care of your child's vision, whilst getting them to enjoy the new responsibility of looking after their own spectacles.
Looking after your spectacles
Once your child's spectacles have been fitted properly and are comfortable to wear, we will give you a free hard case to protect them when your child isn't wearing them. You'll also receive a Kodak Lens Microfibre Cleaning Cloth to help keep the lenses clean and dust free.
Encourage your child to:
- Make sure they only use their special cloth to keep their spectacles clean, as tissue or other materials could scratch the surface. It is also best to ask them to wet the lenses before rubbing them.
- Ensure that they take their spectacles off carefully using two hands. This stops the sides from getting bent out of shape.
- Never put the spectacles face down as this could scratch the surface, and always store them in their case.
How to make going to the opticians fun
For a young child, going to an unfamiliar place can seem quite daunting. Here are a few tips to ensure they look forward to their next visit:
- Reassure your child that it won't hurt.
- If you have a young child, try playing 'opticians' at home before you go. This will help your child understand what the optician will do and it might make this more appealing and fun.
- Join your child in the examination room to ensure they feel relaxed.
- Ask the optician to show your child the instruments and explain what they do.
- Try on a couple of pairs of spectacles with your child, so they see there's nothing to be worried about.
